Taken on a hike during vacation up to Deluge Lake in Vail Colorado.
All post work done in Capture NX. There isn't a good blending tool, did the best I could with Gaussian blur.
Post Challenge Comments:
I'm happy, I have a negative comment by Posthumous. Funny thing this is a non HDR image (Nikon Capture NX can't do that). Achieved the luminous effect with Gaussian blur. Really not that interesting of a photo and I was debating even entering it since 1) it is a pretty boring shot 2) it doesn't fit the challenge that well and 3) I was on vacation so I didn't even realize the challenges till I got back. It's junk in my book.
Anyhow, here is the original straight from the camera. Probably my best exposed shot ever (though the grad ND filter on the lens helped), too bad the subject material was bland:

Your technique gives it, oddly, a photorealism painting technique look - I rather like this, but agree with you that it's dubiously "impressionistic" (although I don't think it's a shoehorn). However I had given it an 8, since I think it's a nicely done image. Bland isn't always bad - this is nice study of light.
This has such a strange feeling to it. Kinda like a toned map impressionistic painting...I love the angle of the hill that devides the photo into triangles and the center aspen tree creating some much needed tension in the composition. Overall very well done. I voted earlier in the week and just wanted to leave a comment. 7
