THE IMAGE: Got up at 5:30am and headed down to the Princess Street Bridge overlooking the Yarra River in Melbourne on a brisk, fresh morning. The sky was clear and the sun started coming up when I got there. There are many rowing teams training in the morning and I got some great images. It was hard to choose, but I chose this one because of so many aspects I liked.
I like the graduated light in the water; the blobs of water just left behind; the perfect symmetry in the oars; the fact that they were pretty women :-) and not ugly men... I like the golden light coming in from behind from a spectacular sunrise. It was all magical.
EDIT: I love doing desktop publishing, so having ribboned in the album cover challenge, I had to have a stab at this. The photo editing was so simple...levels, USM, cloned out a few tiny leaves, but gave up in the end as it all added, a little dodge and burn...noise ninja.
PREDICTION: I want to win a ribbon with this
POST CHALLENGE: I am so happy, after a dq in the Fill The Frame challenge, I was a little down, this picked me up! I am in Adelaide for a fantastic Pastor's Conferece and this made a great start to the week. Will post some outtakes when I get home...
And yes, the Yarra was blue and not brown because of the light. But when you look carefully in the cold light of day, it's still a brown dusty track... :-) Thanks everyone.

Congrats, Enzo! I thought this was the best entry and voted it 10. You really captured the motivational aspect, the picture matched the text perfectly, and of course it's a fantastic image. :)
nice work, the light is very good ... the compo is kinda ... how to say it ? ... umm ... errm ... strange? :-) ... nevermind, it works okay here considering your POV ... and besides it's very very cool we can see the bubbles and swirls in the water ... great capture and poster, congratulations !!
the boat is offset a bit to port, the bowman is a little late, their bodies are not in sync horizontally, and they are all feathering at different times. Oh critique the picture not the rowers? I love it! :) Wish I could have it on my wall!
I'm not surprised to see this win, the photo is great and perfect material for these types of posters. Only thing that held it back for me (and still does) is - I can't read the damn script to see whose quote that is! I'm on a 22 inch monitor...
I'm actually surprised to see this ribbon. I thought the photo was too complex for DPC. This is my favorite of the ribbons. The blue isn't really what I would call "Motivational" and the yellow doesn't have a strong fit between words and image, like yours does. Well done.
Congratulations Enzo. What a great idea for the poster and well carried out. You positioned yourself perfectly, nailed the shot, and came up with a good textual message to match!
This is really fantastic, I wouldn't be surprised if this won. My only nitpick is that the boat seems blown out but that is looking for something to nitpick.
How dare you? What makes you think you can just come in here and crush 164 other entries with your clear, bright, colourful, beautiful shot that perfectly conveys the motivational message of your poster, along with your fancy-pants use of fonts to polish off the whole package? Huh? HUH?... You want a 10? Is that it? FINE. I'll give you a 10...
I love the photo. The TEAMWORK text is very good. The small text quote is not a positive. The frame is not a positive, as it reduces the viewable portion of the image. In this case, less would have been more. I'm still voting this a "9" based on the excellent photo.
not the most original idea, but very well executed; great colors and sharpness, beautiful gradient created through the light from top to bottom. Good layout, border color is too muddy, choice of typeface for "Henry Ford" is questionable.
