WOW!!! I can't thank everyone enough. I'm glad that everyone appreciated the humor in the shot. I know I cropped the photo too much, but my friends fingers were in the shot, hence the tongue reaching for a salty treat. Looking back I should have just cloned the fingers out.
Processing (what I remember):
crop and rotate
cloned flies on face, ear tag, and a cow that was in the background.
Levels
Selective color for sky, grass, and brown on cow.
Dodge & Burn some areas (under chin and bright spots on face)
Neat Image
Resize
Sharpen USM(selective)
Used lots of layer masks to control
Thanks to my friend Ellie for working up a good salty sweat on our hike. The cow really liked her!!!

Wondering if you might be able to message me and tell me how you achieve the softish surreal look? I have seen it on a lot of photos and I'm not sure how to acheive it! Thought I might ask you because you've done an excellent job!
You seriously might consider selling this to a milk company (perhaps in the U.S.). Seeing a cow with a bell in such a clean image really isn't something people expect I think - at least where I'm from.
I knew this would place highly but there were so many other beautiful images that I couldn't predict a winner. I'm glad to see an image with a sense of humor winning the blue, congrats on your ribbon =]
Oh, how NICE that this wholly atypical (for DPC), hilariously whimsical image took the blue! It's a wonderful shot, startling sense of almost tactile surfaces, beautifully rendered. Congrats!
Lol - This is just too funny. I love it. Maybe a tad over sharpened, but I think it's so cute and fun I'm giving you a 10 anyways! Thanks for making me laugh.
Incredible photo, the processing is absolutely wondefful. HDR perhaps? The only nitpick I can think of, and it's a very minor nit, I would like to see this same photo without the tip of the tongue cut off. 9
As disgusting as that tongue looks, I've eaten so much here in Japan that I can't say it isn't beautiful (Or tasty). Love the contrast. The fur looks like it's been overly . Whether that's what you did or not, I can't say. I still like the photo. 8
Back to comment: I'm a sucker for these extreme close up, super wide angle shots of cows. There's something so delightful about them, and this one's made even more-so because of the huge tongue poking out. Well done! The only minor nit-pick is that the burning is visible in the clouds above the nose. Still a 10 in my book though!
AWESOME!!! Your perspective is just LOL funny. And you did a good job with amending the crop so that it isn't too bothersome that the tip of the tongue is missing.
like the details, the colors and the idea! But it's a shame you cropped of the tongue, bell, ear and legs.
At least the tongue should have been completly in the shot!
