Shot at the local zoo. This is a King Vulture and the title is as near as I can get to a pun of sorts, seeing that the title song to the film was performed by Wings, of course. I thought of the title and then went trying to get a picture to fit.

In retrospect, I would have given this a 10. You introduced me to these magfnicently beautiful birds with this terrific shot. I love the colors, POV, focus/DOF, and composition. This is one of those images that just haunts me (and has continued to do so since the challenge). I remember it vividly at all times. I'm not sure what else can be said to express my impression of this shot. I love it.
I think in a Free Study this would win hands down. Its one of the top bird shots I have seen here. but I also had a hard time scoring it over a 7 with out any emphasis on the wings. Great Title I missed that because some wicked headshot kept staring at me. :)
Dang, Mr. Pants! This is absolutely FABULOUS!!! Woo Hooo! I feel so stoked to be on the same team with such amazing talent! You NAILED this. It takes my breath away!
Awesome detail and clarity, I'm interested in knowing what type of bird this is,(vulture?) the colors are extremely great, awesome capture, great work, 10.
OMG! I almost feel like I am being accused of something aweful! This image conveys loads of emotion through the eye contact with the photographer/viewer. Brilliant colours and clarity. Well captured.
Wow... this if fabulous with its short focal length and nicly saturated colours. It looks like a difficult picture to take, to freeze that perfect moment. A perfect 10!
I find myself in a quandry over this one - the challenge is wings, physical or figurative, and yet the wings seem to be completely incedental to the photograph. The level of detail and colour reproduction in the birds head are incredible, with an almost seering clarity of focus. However as a photograph (and quite seperate from the challenge, too) it doesn't quite work for me - something to do with the fact that focus is deep enough to allow the tip of the beek through to the neck to be sharp, but then drops off incredibly rapidly. I am curious to see what lens you are using.
I'm sure you'll get some comments about how the wings aren't really visible, but this is just an amazing shot. Fantastic clarity, composition, and color. 9
What a fantastic shot... I really like it that you can't see the wings... doesn't detract one bit, as far as I am concerned anyway... how did you ever get the head so crisp and the rest of the beast so wonderfully OOF? Awesome
im usually not huge on bird pics but that look is killer! however, i wish the wings were emphasized more, they are mostly cropped out of this shot :( im sure he's got a killer wing span 6
Oh my goodness they are ugly in a spectacular kind of way...love the depth of field and lighting...sharp where it matters...hope the voters are kind to you 9
