Congrats on 5th! This is a beautiful image. Infrared Huh? Just one more thing I need to learn about..LOL ...Guess I'll have to consult you when the time comes :-)
Thank you for all the wonderful comments, as some of you have already guessed this was an infrared image with the levels adjusted to make the sky black, but as a byproduct I lost some detail in the forground. The shot was taken about five minutes from my home in a wildlife preserve in northern california at about 2pm, a bright hot day with not a cloud in the sky.
very dramatic and eye-catching - you might want to play with dodging and burning this one, to brighten up the highlights in the trees and grass - could be even more effective.
I love the drama in this shot. The black sky changes this from an expansive, open field to something that feels oppressive and dangerous. How did you do this?
(i'm only making quick comments for scores 8+, sorry) Geesh, can I say WOW. Hang this one up. Yes, the neg space impacts the effect of this image. great composition and creativity and talen. 10 Ruthann
This is pretty good but the area of sky is unnaturally black and doesn't seem to work for me when it meets the horizon. I like the trees though as the highlight on the leaves is just enough for some detail but not too much as to be overpowering. I would prefer to see the sky not as black because I'm sure there is some detail in there that would make it more appealing to me. Score:7 Courtenay
Ladies and Gentlemen--We have a winner!...The open landscape and the darkened sky almost make the trees appear to be huddling together for security... Great photo....The black sky gives it a psuedo-surreal quality along with the a sense of forbode...The negative space is haunting and real!
Intersting. I wonder what you use to get hte sky dark,, bluish filter perhaps? Neat. It would've been better if the sky is shown more and a wider angle on a flatter ground. 9 paganini
Definite wow factor. Would love to know how you got the sky SO black. Polariser and then heavy use of curves? Either way it's very effective. 10 - floyd
I really like this photo! I thought that this may be an Infrared image, but the more I look at it, the less I think it's IR. I see some possibly vignetting on the lower corners and I'm wondering if this is stacked filters? I would really love to hear how you achieved this one... great shot :) = 9 - jmsetzer
I tried to do something similar, but on a bridge, and I ended up hating my camera for it. You, however, did it much better than I would have. 9 -lennier
Composition: I dont think this represents negative space as it is now maybe cropped differently 4 Lighting: patchy 4 , Appeal: 5, Total Rating 5 Sulamk
