Thanks for the comments, they are all valid. I was out of the country when I submitted this entry, and didn't have access to Photoshop. I am new to DPC and didn't realize the quality of images being submitted to this category. Lesson learned :)

Well, the focus is good and the contrasting colors are nice but in a challenge with so many very, very interesting and technically perfect photo, I just wonder. I think to improve it, imho, I'd have gone for a tighter crop.
the colors are great and the composition is pretty solid but the image lacks some real punch as if the contrast could be boosted and the colors brought up a little more to make this really jump
