Is there a reason you chose black and white for this image? There is a lot of detail that, in black and white, is a bit overpowering but might be more acceptable in color.
I can see how this place could give a small child nightmares. The lighting is a bit harsh for the highlights, but not so bad for the shadows. Perhaps you could tweak those a bit
