Aw, thanks everybody. I was pretty sure while doing this that people wouldn't really like it 'cause it's a sensitive subject. It was hard to compose it. Basically what I did was put a stack of books on top of the toilet and pointed the camera towards the mirrors and fiddled with them until I got a triple image. This took SO long to shoot. That's me by the way- thanks for the attractive girl compliemts, I'm quite pleased :D Thanks everyone who liked it- I really appreciate that!
There have been images in this style before on DPC, but I have never found them as hard to look at as this image. I guess the thing is that no matter where you look in the mage you are faced by the grim reality of what the subject is about to do. Also the thoughts of why such a young attractive person would be about to take her own life?
On a technical note the composition is spot on as is the colour and the use of soft focus really works well here in my opinion. 10.
I think what this person spoke against about this photo is all what it is about. A pretty young girl, with no reason to commit suicide IS committing suicide... that's the problem... these are the people who are confused and need help.. I thought i was thought provoking, and great with the triptic mirror, with the girl and the knife in the foreground. I do agree it is a bit in your face with the knife.. perhaps something a little more subtle could work too.. but i thought it was good.... a 9 from me
oopps sorrty.. i guess i sort of misread before i wrote this comment about what that other person said... anyhow.. what i said still goes for those people who do not like this image because of what is in it.

You should be very proud of this photo lizzy! Not only is it a fabulous piece of art, but it's provoked so much emotion in people that it has made them uncomfortable. Take that as a compliment! Art is supposed to provoke emotion, and delve into the human psyche, and you've done that masterfully here. If some people on the site are too close-minded, scared of reality, frightened of their own emotions, or too used to seeing pretty happy stock photos then that's a shame! Congrats to you!
Don't listen to them! Its a great shot, I like how you put the focus on the mirrors, its a great point of view, it was challenging (due to the mirrors), and the way you cropped it is fantastic.
I would just like to echo what Joel said...
I Can't believe this came so low!? I guess many people voted on their thoughts on the theme of the photograph, and not on it's technical quality and dramatic impact.

I think most of the people who commented were ignorent.
You can tell by the number of comments you got, that you were able to provok the response you were looking for.
PROVOKING AN INTENDED RESPONSE IN A PHOTO TAKES TALENT TOO PEOPLE!
Your photo would have been much better without the knife. The girl could have kept almost the same pose without the knife and it would have been a great shot.
The suicide theme of this picture just doesn't fit the rest of it. The pretty girl, the red dress, the 3 way mirror... the suicide drama is too intense. She should've been doing something a little more like putting on lipstick. The grim mood of this doesn't fit real well. At least not to me anyway. I really do like the way it was taken and the idea with the mirror is very good.

FYI, you're supposed to slice a straight line, parallel to the arm (elbow to wrist), not across. of course that's not what anyone should be doing anyways. especially not someone that young, life as a teenager can blow chunks, but it usually settles down after that.
well done. All of the elements convey the mood of this scene very well, and it's an excellent fit to the challenge both figuratively and literally. Good way to cover all bases with the voters :-) Chances are you will get voted down because of the subject matter, but I'm giving it a 10
Troubling, but I suspect that is what you were after. I would have focused on the center image and made that as sharp as possible, but this is a great image.
