 A shot I almost entered in the "Candid" challenge; here's the one I did enter:



Taken the same day, but of a different monk. These two would hand out free stuff, and if people took it and engaged them at all, they would hand them more stuff, and then a CD (for which they would ask for money).

They did seem to strike up some good conversations, though, so it seems they were pretty good at what they were doing.

I have no idea what I did in processing; anyone truly interested just PM me and I'll ask Photoshop.

a very nice candid.
even the head inbetween the two has just enough DOF to make it not distracting.
the look on the monks face is perfect.
totally unaware that his photo is being taken.
i think i prefer this to your actual entry.
but what do i know?

somehow the first thing that attracts my attention in this picture is that dark shadow on the foreground rather than the main subjects. i can't help but wonder what it is, my mind is trying to fill that gap and fit things there. i like it like this, i think. makes me feel even more that i'm just a mere observer, yet at the same time makes me think more about this picture than i would have if it wasn't present there.

I think if that foreground shadow was more like the out of focus areas in your entry it would work just fine. In your entry I like the OOF areas as it makes me feel like I am there on a busy street watching him.

You've got half of it right. You captured a good moment where the monk seems really connected to his mark. The other half is background and composition. That needs some work, including that dark thing in the foreground. At least you can be happy to know that you got the more important half right. :)

The monk (and I find it hard to see him as a monk) looks genuinely interested in his mark. Though I still can't see him as a monk. A con artist, though a kind one, possibly.
