Great photo, I love the atmosphere! Shame I couldn't really comment on this challenge because of my lack of time, 'cos this is one of my favs! :-) Congrats!
Thanks for the comments. I had the guy turn the cigarette like that on purpose. I often see people holding their cigarettes like that when it is cold and windy outside so that it doesn't burn down so fast.
missed this in the votes too. Reminds me of some war film with a russian by the docks impending trouble. Think the cigarette needs turning round though?
Definitely one of my favorites for this challenge! I'm not a big fan of smoking, but the toning of the shot is great, and the blue haze gives a great feeling of a cold night. The tiny bit of red in the cigarette itself is a nice touch.
as cold as it has been up north having to smoke outside would be a good reason to suddenly quit! nice photo...I like the composition, and the way you captured the smoke
the position of the hand and the cigarette are the only thing I don't like about this photo. Its very unnatural. Aside from that though, nice idea, great lighting and perfect exposure. Good work 8
Give it up!
The image is great I like the effect very much but why use the ciggarette surley the cold air would have done the trick
Nice focus and great pic
The lighting here is very effective and I like the contrast between the blue of the backlit smoke and the orange of the burning cigarette. Also, you have maintained a good separation between the subject and the background. The way that the subject is holding the cigarette seems awkward, as though he's getting ready to put the wrong end into his mouth (OUCH!)
Although I have a problem with the depiticion of \"Cig's\", this shot is technically excellent and meets the 'After Dark' theme as well as if not better than any other in the challenge. Kudos! As it turns out I rated your picture the highest in the challenge... Independent of the 'ciggie' ~ it's a winner. I particularly like the way you worked the lighting & exposure. When first viewed my eye is drawn to the bright spot in the picture whereupon the subtle , yet brilliant, glow of the cig is revealed. That feature would be lost on any that only judge from thumbnails. Features garnering my appreciation & pondering include; the source of 'smoke', as it's wispy look does not suggest steam nor do I think the ciggie or model could have produced that much smoke with one puff. Your light source(s) producing the glow on the neck, hat, chin & what may be the left side collar. The right arm, wrist & hand. Even the gaze upon the Ciggie by the model is conveyed very well. All of those features add up to a photo which is too good to be considered just a "lucky shot". You clearly exhibit the much coveted trait of 'Photographers Eye'. I rate this shot a "Ribbon Winner"

Very cool shot. Love the red glow on the cigarette. Nice siluetted image. I would have cropped off the right side of the photo a bit. The smoke creates interesting eery texture. Well done.
Crop of the left part up to the back of his head and I think it is perfect. I don't smoke but this picture makes me imagine how someone can long for a cigarette, gives a restful moment in a hectic world. I love the overall blue color and then the red tip of the cigarette. 9
This is my number 1 pic for this challenge to date. It is striking and memorable. - Of course I am a person who is ferverently hoping I get to smoke in heaven since I've given up here!
Great lighting, composition and the smoke of course adds great depth and interest, tho it looks like he is thinking about eating the cig. vs. smoking it : ).
