This is my first try at shooting the moon. I thank all the people who contributed to the thread on how a moon shot should be done. I just bought a 6X tele extender for my Nikon Coolpix 990, and this seemed the best way to try it out. Comments are of more value to me than ratings, in this case, as I'm trying to learn how to do this.

Probably does not seems obvious, but its a great way to reduce camera shake from pressing the button and at 1/4 shutter speeed that small time you shake the camera to gently press the button turns out to be a lot. Set the timer, press the shutter and then dont even breathe near the camera :)
Mostly the timers are 10 seconds but some cameras like HP850 (I think) have a 2 seconds timer or maybe (even better) you can use a remote control like most Canons. You can find out by looking it up on your manual.
Hope it helps, I will be posting a couple of moon shots soon also.
This shot seems to be exposed nicely but suffers from a lack of focus. I'm not sure how to help out much with that issue with your camera. The only things I can really do here are offer the suggestions that I've found useful in low light shooting environments and hope it applies to this one.
First and MOST IMPORTANT: use a tripod. You did not put that detail in your coments. In a low light environment, you have to deal in some way with camera shake. Easiest and most effective: Tripod!!! I see that you used a 6x extender. This will bring the image 6 times closer and also make any camera shake 6 times worse!
Next thing I can point out: take LOTS of shots. I am not familiar with your camera but I don't believe it has manual focus. With my camera (no manual focus either) I have to take MANY shots to make sure that I get the focus where I want it.
Lastly: don't get discouraged. Keep trying. Just because it didn't work tonight don't mean it won't work tomorrow!
Hope this helps. If you do take my advice and keep shooting, please post your best shots.

This is almost a great moon shot. It is a little blurry, but as someone who has been trying to get a good one also, I know how hard it can be (still haven't done it). The positioning is nice. Not the same "middle of the photograph" composition.
