 Unfortunately, my camera is fully automatic. Auto-focus, auto-exposure. I shot this in Macro mode, no flash, self-timer. Tweaked in PS7. Used NeatImage to remove some noise.

I like your idea here. Took me a while to see the person and that element adds a good deal of interest. Extreme foreground stops my eye from moving into your shot (the yellow blurry thing) - perhaps cropping this side of the shot out altogether would help make this an even better shot.
