Me and my girlfriend Helga went for a drive the other night like many times before. In this trip we ended up in some woodland, nearly getting the car stuck there.
After wandering around in the wood for some time, this nice old man walked carefully up to us and asked us what we were doing there. He informed us that this was his woodland and that it is forbidden to pass at this time of day. After a short talk he sensed how harmless we were and gave us permisson to come here at any hour, any time.
After some more talk I asked him if I could take his picture. I only got this one picture right, I pushed my Phase One P30 digital back to its maximum 800 ISO. I used the biggest apeture my lense could produce (f/3.5) and very long shutter time.
Afterwards we drove off and talked about how nice it was meeting this man, then he drove up to us and invited us to his home for beer. And so we went there and talked some more. He had this fantastic garden, he even had a Niagra Falls replica in middle of it, which he built himself after a visit to Canada 2 years earlier.
Poul is a retiered farmer, and this woodland has been in his families posession since 1940.

I didn't know I could feel so much affection for a hunter. He seems utterly at home. His hands are trees. This photo makes me so happy and sad at the same time, so that I can't tell the difference.
wonderful black and white portrait, the placement in the frame is a little odd, its not quite centere but not quite rule of thirds, strange, but i love the depth of field and the bw conversion was done beautifully, great textures as well
