Taken with reversed Nikkor-H 50mm F/2.0, approx 1:1 macro.
I found these beautiful flowers at my parents' hotel, the Red Cottage Inn. Actually, there are a ton of beautiful flowers around the hotel, but these attracted my attention (and camera) because the bees loved them, and the patterns on the flowers looked very much like a color burst.
I labeled it Passiflora Incarnata, but I don't think that is quite the species. Close, but not quite, but I can't do a better identification based on online information.
Took a bunch of pictures, then came back the next day, and took a bunch more. To get a good shutter speed I had to use 800 ISO (the wind was pretty intense and I couldn't get a tripod near the flowers).
This was my favorite shot because of the position of the bee's head. I'm not a huge fan of the composition, but it works (I just couldn't get a crop that worked, the bee's wings were clipped in my negative). The best part was the color separation of the bee, the flower, and the background, it let me control each individual color and brightness with HSV.
I have pretty high hopes for this image, I think it is my best to date and I'm hoping for a personal best, 6.5+. We'll see though, I've been wrong many times before.
Post Challenge:
I noticed that the twentieth entry in the challenge was also of the passionflower. Funny... Oh, and I totally forgot this part:
All hail Team F/ATE!
