This is a cute idea. I agree that the feather should be in focus, if that's possible. Also - how about a crop that cuts out the mouth and nose and just has the eyes peeking over the rim?

Colors are good - a little contrasty in the face. Background is excellent.

I'd still go with the two people, though.
