A perfect setting. As mysterious it is, I am well placed. I see the opening to the hall, the door to the bedroom. He is in a public living room or foyer. He is reflecting a painting he doesn't even understand. I am amazed and impressed at just how much story you've packed into a single image.
Although Dad is not quite in focus, this is a very interesting photo that makes me want to continue looking. The composition and emotive are very strong here. 7.
Great idea! If you truly wish to recapitulate the painting though, echo the softness of the light as well. Also, your verticals on the left aren't vertical.
