Lighting is a little harsh here. A different time of day may help with that issue. Also I think that you need a little fill lighitng as it's hard to tell where subject ends and tree begins.

Good idea... but I think you need to use more of the light you have.. currently the light draws me to his pants, not up to his face.. also I think this could have used a much tighter crop I like his pose though... andd great smile :-). Hope he likes them!
