To be honest this was my favourite idea for a photo I have done for DPC.
30sec exposure. camera on camera bag on the floor. Ella sits very still under tree. I run up with timer set. flash her off camera. Flash the tree a couple of times. Then use torch to draw notes coming out of instrument.
the colours - the orange was the glow of a full moon on the low lying clouds. the purple was the outer clouds, and the blue was the night sky.
cheers for the ribbon!!

Congrats on the ribbon Maestro, when you told me the score I was pretty confident it would at least ribbon since I figured this would be a low scoring challenge. This is most definately "painting with light" and a worthy winner but I also resent that here on DPC the term painting with light has a whole different meaning in photographs than in the rest of the world of photography and that the photos who didn´t have moving trails of light in them didn´t really stand a chance.
Anyway, again, a worthy winner and great idea so congrats :)
I didn't view or vote this challenge, and I doubt that I would have ever guess how you pulled this off. After reading your setup and execution, I wish I could have given you an 11. One of the most creative setups I've ever seen. A truly under-appreciated effort (though 6.9 ain't bad). Glad you ribboned. The work of a true genius.
Nice one, Alex. That tree is a nice form. I wonder what it might be like if it was more in silhouette and less in green (in other words less revealed). Anyway.... congrats.
Wow - one of the best ideas I've seen so far! Could have been ribbon material, but the subject is so small! It also takes a second to see what the "notes" are. I keep wondering how a crop with only the bottom left quarter of the image would have looked.
Nice capture - Some amazing pics in the challenge - I hope to see this up there on the top 3 - Really lovely. I suppose the only very tiny gripe would be the overexposure on the girls face.
I can't totally wrap my mind around the setup for this shot. I really hope you explain in your post-notes. I'm guessing a car's headlights and flashlights...but I still can't figure out the background...nice job though...very creative.
Loved the idea! But didn't like the color on the background..doesn't look natural at all.. even if the idea was to demonstrate the "magic change" it doesn't look good.
