This is from the same spot as my Contre-jour entry:
The fog and sun are very different though ;)
This has all four elements in it but the voters may not see that in a quick view:
Earth: the hills
Air: the air above the hills
Water: the fog
Fire: the sun

Post Challenge: Woo Hoo! Another ribbon and twice from this same location near my home. I need to take more days off work. Usually it is pitch black when I pass this point on my way to work but I was able to take this shot because I was off work and taking my son to daycare. I guess the lesson there is that I should go to work less ;)
Wow, thanks to sites such as stumbleupon.com and digg.com this image has had over 200,000 views and is the 3rd most viewed DPC image at the time I write this.

this is a great shot I just wanted to comment on it because i ran across it recently i really like it good work, but one question though. Why where you taking your son to daycare if you where off work?
This is a wonderful photo. But the voters already told you that! The ribbon is well-deserved. The vibrant colors really draw me in, and the view is breathtaking. There are a lot of good things to say, but two things really strike me here:
First, I love the way that the warm colors sandwich the cool colors. Since warm colors seem near and cool ones far away, this really enhances the depth of the photo. And the warmth at the top and bottom tie those two areas together, helping to unify the photo that's separated into 3 areas (sky, fog, and grass, with dark lines between them).
Second, the feel of the photo is overall peaceful, but with an undercurrent of excitement. The serenity comes from lots of horizontal (or nearly so) lines and the low contrast cool fog. But the strong diagonal line of trees in the far foreground and, of course, the rays of the breaking sun combined with the bright warm colors promise that won't last long!
I only have one complaint: The photo is only 6 1/2 inches wide on my screen. Not nearly big enough!
Well done and congrats on your yellow. NZ is such a photogenic country it is almost as good as that small island to your west. Great image congrats again.
very smart using the same place and time again. I think it was the same time in the day, or about, but seems the sun moved because of winter coming in your part of the world. So it move a bit to the north giving you a shorter day.
Good nice work.
The reason I vote, and trawl through so many average photos, is that once in a while somebody comes up with something that makes my jaw drop. This is it. I'll be fascinated to find out where you took this.
