This delightfully cheerful woman and her friend (not shown) adorn the window of a local coffee shop. While I do not expect a good score with this, I learned a lot in processing it and thank my teammates for their input with the tweaks (and for not having a cow that I'm submitting it). My best option for this challenge was a shot I took the day before the challenge was announced, unfortunately. My second choice, shot during the challenge period, would undoubtedly score better but was a simple desat of all colors but one. I think this one best represents the challenge and best represents learning new skills.
Used a mask to isolate parts of the mannequin to stay in color; used CS3's black and white conversion. Tweaked color saturation, dodged the eye to bring it out a bit. Added slight vignetting with the gradient tool on a blank layer with soft light blending mode.

Very cool reflected shot! The clarity in the reflection is astounding. I like how the two walkers seem to be look at the primary subject. Very nice coloring! Wonderful shot.
This is a beautiful photograph, from concept to capture to processing. If I'd voted, I would have increased your "10" scores. Thanks for adding the workflow and it's now a favorite.
Deb, I loved this one and gave it a 9. I think it is an excellent use of selective desat. Without the desat, the mannequin blends into the background too much and the whole image is a jumble. You got a pretty good score for this considering that it is very off-beat. I think many voters just thought WTF and moved along quickly.
Deb - I'm really glad you went ahead and submitted this shot despite your reservations. Look at that average from the commenters - and 2 faves! Obviously this one really resonates with people. Great job!
I almost gave this a 7. I gave it a 6 and a half. I really do like the picture. It's just that I thought it would be better without the selective desat. I could be wrong!
Wow! I think this is amazing! It is so strikingly unique. She almost looks like a disney character. I absolutely love this! I'm really surprised that it didn't place much higher too. It looks very artistic and dpc-friendly.
I'm shocked! I was hoping this shot would finish higher!!! Hey, we finished right next to each other though. ;) Seriously...i LOVE this picture. It's lovely. Good for you for submitting it, even though you didn't think it would score well. :)
So delightful, and so quirky, and so much fun.....
A wonderful example of processing in a new, refreshing, and differant way..... I really love it.....
Wow way to go Deb, what a great photo, and love the processing, the expression on the subject is outstanding and you have captured a brilliant mood...this received a 7 from me...
How intriguing and thought provoking but very confusing. I think I like it, I certainly like two pedestrians in the background looking towards her but I wonder if most if not all of the near one could have been cropped? I will be interested to see how you have done this. Good luck.
