 Selectively desat all but red and yellow. Levels, brightness, shadows, crop & sharpen. No heroic processing needed.
Today used the old Canon 20D with Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS with a 2X entender, for a total of 305mm zoom

I don't think, saturation or desaturation here makes a big difference.

If not for the background, this could almost be an image with no desat applied at all. Excellent job.

Its quite hard to see if there is any desaturation on this picture. Otherwise an fine entry.
