Oh GREAT use of natural lighting!!! Love how the light plays on the Maple leaf and throws into detail all the textures and lined segments of the leaf. You have some strong tones and contrasts here that are come to light with very dramatic visual appeal. Love the square crop because it keeps the attention focused on the leaf. I was about to suggest that you could even crop closer but I think that little bit of negative space to the right and bottom suits the composition well. I think it works and should stay mainly because the negative space is the dark background that really throws the naturally lit maple leaf into dramatic contrast.
you are right - eureka! don't you just love it when the light is doing exactly what you want. it is a wonderful image with great detail on the veins of the leaf and the backlight glow to make them show
It works great (square crop). The sun playing through the young maple leafs is fantastic. It's amazing how short Spring really is, you go from bare trees to mature leaves in just a couple weeks. Beautiful, strong B/W here, in my mind I can see it in full colour.
Oh man! This is really striking! I love the lighting so much. I love square crops too. I use them alot. You couldn't have used anything else with this photo -- it is PERFECT! 10
This is such a strong image, and I love the differance between the light and dark tones here balanced with those beautiful leaves.....
Wonderful texrures and great focus on that centered leaf.....
