I got in bed and slid my hand under my pillow. I felt something cold and slick and was a little concerned at what might be there. I jumped out of bed, turned on the lights, flipped over the pillow - and found four brightly colored tulips. Just started laughing hysterically.
In the morning I questioned my three boys about it. The older two had no idea what I was talking about. Then I asked my baby if he could tell me where these came from.
He smiled at me sheephishly, and told me that they were from the Flower Fairy. God love him.
What a heartwarming story and I absolutely love your illustration for it! I would have given this a very plump score in the desat challenge - or any challenge... but it would have been especially refreshing in desat.
The selective desat. really helps the colors of the flowers pop off the page. I like the composition in which the shadow of the hand(s) reach and the tips touch the bottom stems of the tulips. To me it projects the action of "just reaching a little more", a little more....got them! And that is a wonderful little story to go with the picture. I trust the 'flower fairy' made another visit today;-) - Happy Mother's Day!
this is really cool..tho i have found out the hard way that at least in challenges you will get your ass handed to you for posting selective desat pictures....i love them tho..as in my free study bomb:
Wonderful story, and great shot, nicely conceived and composed. One possible suggestion: I like to see some adjustments to the colors in selective desats; either going a bit brighter through selecting the colored bits and playing with levels/curves on a new layer, or by muting them in the same way. Hope the planting went well (want to come to my house when you're done? I hate planting, and it shows in my poor garden)!
Awww what a sweet story to go with a wonderful photo. Love the idea of mixing B/W and color. Great focus, composition and processing. Something to treasure always. Great job.
