A pirate anachronist and captain of a very impressive reproduction 1819 Pirate ship called Pride Of Baltimore II. I met this great fellow during a sailing festival and pirate ship battle in Jacksonville this week.

Nice capture of an interesting character. Works very well for the challenge too. I'm not keen on the border and I wish his eyes were a teeny bit sharper but you have a cool DOF going on. Back to bump you up to 8.
The title really works for this picture, I really like the facial expression and his outfits. I also enjoy the tones of the picture. The only thing that is a little distracting is the object in the lower right hand corner. but other then that Great work.
While we can't see the cultural event here - the context - you'vereally capture this guys human qualities - his experience at the event he's at. YOu can imagine what he's getting out of it and what he's putting into it. I love the DOF and the detail - just hte right exposure. The object in the foreground is a little distracting.
fantastic image ... just not completely sure how this fits the challenge ... wish there was more background info to show what type of cultural event this is ... nonetheless ... I really like it ... 7
great shot. Top 10, I think. great B & W conversion, great Dof, great focus, great composition to just get the head. The only detraction, IMO, is the OOF foreground element (I can't even tell what it is -looks like it might be the top of steering wheel???). An 8 from me.
