Fantastic shot Mary. You reall nailed the rule of thirds. I absolutely love the composition and the softness and the background is perfect. This should have easily been in the 6's.
I miss Longwood Gardens - I'm a 2-year South Jersey transplant to VA. :) Been to Chanticleer gardens yet? I really like the simplicity of this - had given it a 7. Glad you decided not to arrange the comp in such a way as to leave out the unopened bud and the thin tendril bits at the bottom. Background has just the right amount of visual interest throughout the frame without detracting from the main subject. And, you had no 1's or 2's, and that's something for DPC. :)
