well, I combined three images here, plus lots of painting after.
I just couldn't get the right pose on one photo.
color balance, levels, curves, desaturation a bit
find edges: combined the edged variant with my photo
surface blur
lots of editing on the face: shadows under the lips and on the cheeks, eye shadows, volume to the lips, eye makeup
painted roses
painted leaves
painted "sketch" on the body
a lot of painting on hair: light and shadows, color, volume
lots of layers with gradients
color correction
smart sharpen

I took the title from here:
Étude d'un femme vue en buste, la tête de trois quarts à droite, les bras croisés, Théodore Chassériau.
my title (at least as I think:) means "a study of a bust of a woman, unfinished".

I too noticed your photo in the MS photo comp (through the publishing of prophoto magazine) and thought HA! i've seen this photo before. Well done keep up the good work. :)
So I was looking back at the MS photo competition to see what kind of photos beat mine, and there this was... I saw it and knew I recognized it from somewhere! Congrats, Svetlana!
Coming late to the comment party on this winner, and I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said over and over, except this: when it loaded on my screen I was so struck by it that I did not hesitate to click "10". Congratulations.
Actually this is utterly photographic. It is a photographic commentary on drawing, NOT drawing. To call this a drawing is like calling a photograph of a car a parking lot.
I did not have time to vote on this challenge but quickly viewed the pictures one night. When I saw this work I thought this one is going to ribbon. Congrats on a very well integrated work of art and photography.
I think we all have things where we're like "okay, how could this possibly ribbon?" and that just makes sense. Most "digital art" stuff, even in expert, gets penalized, but silverfoxx just did a superb job at impacting us visually, and sometimes that trumps other things (i.e. stunning northern light shots winning over and over again even though people get tired of often-used themes, etc). Unlike what Toyan said, I personally think that the 1s aren't because of not liking her but instead just because of what you said, TooCool - this just does not appeal as "photography" to everyone.
I'm sorry, I don't get it. I do not understand how this fits into the category of photography. I don't understand why this won a blue ribbon in a photography contest. This is why I don't like the expert editing rule set. I didn't vote in this challenge but if I did, you would have recieved another one. Call me old school but please don't hate me because I am. I can't help it...

your opinion is as valuable as the next, i like the pic but i do understand where you're coming from
This is another fine example of your work which continues a long line of photography, the tableau vivant. You have recreated paintings and historical settings in much the same way it's been done since the mid 1800's and the early days of photography. You also use your work to explore your inner world and thereby impart meaning to yourself and others. Beautifully done as always.

I originally worried your photo moved too far into non-photograph territory, so despite its beauty I gave it an 8. Now I'd like to add it to my favorites. Does that make me flexible or sheep-like? Anyway, sincerely glad to see this did so well!
Congrats on your first ribbon! I've often admired your work. I'm sure this will be the first of many ribbons for you!
By the way... We share the date of our first ribbon. I scored my first today as well in Landscape III. It's a pleasure to be in such good company on the front page :-)
beautiful image here. i normally don't post unless something really sticks with me and this one definitely does. i love how it's like one of those "art comes to life" type creations.
One of those photos that just jumps head and shoulders above the rest (suppose that's good for a Hair challenge ;-). Congrats on your blue and another wonderfully artistic image.
I absolutely loved this photo and was stunned to see that 5 people actually gave you a 1!!!! I would like to know how they could justify this. Seriously, if someone who gave a 1 reads this can you tell me why you gave it such a low score, am I missing something?
finalllllllllllllllllly
ahhh
soooo well deserved
i love the way you stick to your beautiful artistic style and the way i can always recognize a silverfoxx picture when i see it.
love
excellent image!!! well deserving of the blue. congrats on the ribbon, and the amazing score. very creative use of the expert rule-set. it reminds me of the 80's video by "a-ha" for the song "take on me." in case you are wondering whether that's a good comparison or not, i consider that to be one of the best music videos ever...
Very very nice! I've being saying for a while that you are due a ribbon and what a way to get one. Congrats on the blue, a lovely image as usual from you.
Holy moly!!! Wow! What a picture!! When I was glancing at the entries, I thought this might be you, but I wasn't sure!! You look SO different! I kind of figured you would ribbon for a hair challenge ;) CONGRATULATIONS!! WOWEWOWOW! I'll bet you are on cloud nine girl :)
Congrats, Svetlana!! Not only a wonderful image of a lovely young woman, but an excellent piece of artwork. You go, girl! Look at the number of 10s and the average received from the commenters! While we truly do love having you on Team Suck, you most assuredly do NOT suck in the execution of your craft.
*fall over* This is AMAZING. Great use of expert editing to achieve something that is both "photographic in nature" and something that goes beyond what we can see in other rulesets. I love the concept but also, I believe this is executed just perfectly. The soft colors just make this perfect in my opinion. 10 10 10!
I love this photo. Exposure and all is a extremely pleasing and intriguing effect. Cannot wait to see how you achieved this. make sure you put the steps you took on this photograph's page.

I really, really, really like the 'photo' part of this, but I also really dislike the lower 'sketch' part of the image; I would much prefer a nude photograph, and I feel that you would have carried it off in a tasteful manner. I am only going to give a 6, largely because I feel the transition from sketch to photo doesn't work particularly well here. Nonetheless, it was an interesting technique to try out, and may be worth exploring further; I do admire the fact that you have tried something new and bold.
Something like "Étude inachevée du buste d'une femme" or "Étude d'un buste de femme , inachevé" would have sound better , more french in my opinion.
But I prefer to only vote the photos and yours is excellent , my favorite in this challenge.
I like the fact that you have used the possibilities of expert editing.
The result is very tasteful and delicate.
I am not voting on Hair, but this is so awesome I just had to leave a comment. I hope hope hope people are open enough to this in Expert for it the ribbon. An immediate favorite, and I don't have many of those.
are those real? j/k... lovely photo. I'm rooting for you to finally ribbon. And you must talk some about how you did this. The effect is incredible. 9 who am I kidding? 10
My God, Svetlana, this is incredible! Your work just keeps getting better and better. I'm truly floored by this one. You earn every 10 you get and then some. In fact, I hope you get the blue with this - I have a feeling you might! Into faves (yet again!)
This one takes my breath away! Wonderful lighting and composition, and the idea of merging the picture into a drawnig is very original and very well executed. A favorite one!
I voted on the whole challenge just so I could give this a 10!! Beautiful image with excellent processing and perfectly executed. It actually reminds me a little of my own drawings, 'cause I never complete them :) I really hope this gets the blue!!!
AMAZING use of the expert editing ruleset. This is stunning, well executed and brilliantly thought out. My choice for winner, and my highest mark, plus a favorite.
Love this one. I love the photo into the drawing concept which focuses attention to her hair and face. My favourite. Woudl love to see a tutorial on this if possible.
Very beautiful and interesting. Not sure how well the editing will go over with the voters... for me it works fine because the original photograph is great and you just added to it artistically, as opposed to trying to carry a bad photograph with the editing.
:) Nice job.
