Oh! I love the star rays in the sun and the silhouette with long shadows effect provides lots of drama to an otherwise ordinary task of boarding a plane. The dramatic effect lends an excitement to the adventure ahead for this gentleman and his two sons. My only nattering naybob nitpick is the crop. Perhaps, cropping out part of the left side of the photo would strengthen the story and the angle of the plane wing to lend the photo a bit more depth of interest. As always, Mark, your photography is superb!
Oh, man. I'm a private pilot, so this image just gets me very excited. Looking at it as objectively as I can, I just ... really really like it. :) I'm a sucker for strong silhouettes, and the theme of a shared experience with your kids resonates too. Basically, I'm your prime audience for this shot.
I'm not slobbering, either, even though it a skillful, thoughtful take on the silhouette. I actually like the wing through the head, but I don't like how the three children near the plane get lost. I also don't like the title. There's too much context here. The story is too obvious: a family going for a plane ride. Nothing mysterious is going on, nothing for me to guess or wonder about.
But I must say it is visually delicious. The shapes of those running children and their corresponding shadow shapes are just fantastic. Just give me a little quirk and/or mystery and I'll be happy! ;)
I like the lights and the darks. I like the shadows most of all. The frame bugs me as does the wing in her head. But, it is a cool shot in that the POV is not usual, the tonal values are not usual, and the composition is not usual. Makes me look but I don't slober over it.
Fantastic...the long shadows pull you right into this photograph. The highlights really give the silouhetted shapes a life of their own. Great mastery of light and exposure on this one.
