I ahev learned a handful of techniques over the past couple of weeks from xianart and TCguru on editing. This image employs several of them.
I have been asked my editing steps on this image. Hopefully I can remember them all.
RAW conversion - bumped up saturation and shifted to portrait mode.
Cloned out sign
High Pass with soft light blend at 65% opacity (my standard for any advanced edit)
Neat IMage
Added New Layer, paint bucket it white, soft light blend mode and reduced opacity down to maybe 15-20%
Desat, dodge and lightly blur whites of eyes (they were really grainy)
Burn around pupil, light dodge and sat pupil
Two hue/sat adjustment layers - first one is desat, second one i tweak lightness of individual color channels to get a good b&w conversion
Delete the desat adjustment layer (I find that i almost always love the colors I get from this step)
Selective color adjustments to bring out the blues in the background and a slight bump on the black channel in black to darken my shadows slightly
Levels adjustment layer, set to auto, screen blend and opacity at approx 20%
Radial gradient layer, masked out what i didnt want shadowed and then gaussian blurred the mask to smooth out the gradient, reduced opacity to 75% or so
I may have tweaked the sat on the green, blue and cyan channels just to make more vibrant (though I may have taken care of it in selective color layer too - I dont remember)

USM at 90/.5/1

Let me just say that I really enjoy editing and trying new techniques. I can not say that I ever have the prior vision of what my end product will be like. It more often than not just seems to happen.
The "BEFORE" pic in the left actually looks better. Your editing seems to have dulled the image, darkened the face, removed the nice vignetting and one of the filters you used apparently puts a "819" sign in the background.
:P
I agree with Art. Why would you take a perfectly good photo and ruin it like that?
You guys are so funny. ;) All fixed now.
And also thanks for all the faves. This has become my most faved non challenge entry. Go figure.
