I think the "aroma" of isopropanol is fixed in most of our minds by the subsequest trauma of the shot. It is one of what I think are called "memory smells" which are almost universally recognized.
Set up some stuff at work. Couldn't get a decent shot with the needle in focus, so I ended up hiding it altogether and using my hand to grab the alcohol wipe.
Cropped to create the diagonal division, and to put the subject on a 1/3 line ...
Combination of fluorescent and incandescent light created weird color casts, so I used 2 tone Curves for contrast, then converted to B+W with the Channel mixer. I also thought a strong B+W went well the the medical subject matter. 2 passes with USM filter. I found that adding the border made the photo seem to "jump off the page,"
and enhanced the macro effect and made it look a lot bigger.

The subject is hidden by the hand? I guess...don't know what you were going for....two hands might have been better and with better focus than on this.
Whew--I smelled this right away just from looking. I work in a hospital. Good job and good idea. I don't understand how the package can be crystal clear and the needle behind the pad but not the actual pad. Did you accidentally move it? LOL Very well done anyway though.
A different smell, and a strong one at that. You made a good choice. I don't know about the composition. The hand seems to take up more of the space than it needs to and the syringe might have been better placed somewhere more visable?
I thought this was a very common, but at the same time unique, interpretation of the challenge. Common in that almost everyone has experienced this smell. I wish that the hand (your hand? If so a model might have helped) came more out of the left and did not take up so much of the subject. Also, it is under exposed somewhat and a little too grainnie. I realize I have made several criticisms but they are are offered in the most constructive of spirit. Best of luck.
Alcohol. :) Aaaaaah the smell. lol When I was working and using it daily it would dry my fingers out. I hope others will get this...?? Not sure they'll know what it is. Maybe. Good creative idea.
