 This photo is of Battery Lowell Chamberlain's 6" rapid firing disappearing gun at what was once Fort Winfield Scott. Battery Lowell Chamberlain is at the North end of Baker Beach in San Francisco. Originally completed in 1904, it operated until 1948 when coastal artillery was deemed outdated. Battery Lowell Chamberlain is one of many historic military installations that dot the Bay Area.
