This image of Phragmipedium Orchids on a black background represents the grief someone feels for a fallen loved one.
I waited at least four years for this orchid to bloom, and I was quite sad when the blossoms began to drop. They had been absolutely exquisite for about a month.
Originally created for the Personification challenge, this image has been altered to widen the background and remove the dead stem in the upper right.
This print was on exhibit at the Cornell Museum in Delray Beach, FL from June 14 through September 8, 2007, where it won the Blue Ribbon (first prize) for photography.
I really love this image. It is very powerful emotionally and beautiful visually. I've had it in my favourites for ages - a couple of years - and I've just noticed that I never left you a comment. (I was a newbie at the time.)
