 the rich neighbour is clearing more land. we went and watched the digger for ages, diggers being small boy magnets and all.

That is a good sized trac hoe. They can definitely gobble things up. At least you got a good image out of it being there, and some entertainment for your "small boy".
That seems a really bad trade for the joy of living next to a big wooded area. I understand exactly how you feel about the land clearing.

There's some sort of karmic justice that when Rich Guy dies, he'll only get a very very small plot of land in which to rest.

Awwww, don't you hate that? They are doing that in Texas too. Every inch of open land they are trying to build subdivisions or offices on it :(

But this is a pretty photo nonetheless.

The sky is so beautiful, this is a great perspective of the digger, with the light highlighting bits of the arm. My daughter loves diggers as well!!
