The Charleston "Angel Oak," reported to be approximately 1500 years old. Camera settings: b&w with sepia toning, white balance to open shade, used tripod and fill flash. Not expecting much scorewise, as lighting was very difficult and people kept coming by (pesky tourists, LOL) :-)

I think I remember this old tree from when I was knee high to a grasshopper. BTW where is the Spanish Moss that seems to infest most of the trees in that area, do they control it to help the old guy? Great picture!
I live in Honea Path, SC and occasionally go to the charleston & beaufort area... I have seen this tree many imes and have photos of it myself.. The photos do not justify the tree..
Flamin' Ada that's a tree and nine halves. The lighting is difficult, but you done good. As for the passers-by, there should be some younger tree to string em' up.
I thought for sure I commented on this - loved it. Reminds me of a giant tree out in Santa Barbara with a similar spread and age. And for out of camera, I was VERY impressed with the lighting and composition - very nice indeed!
I am in awe of this image, and especially love the sepia tones, as it gives it an aging quality, all of its own.
Wonderful capture, and you should be very proud of this one.
Catherine! Ohmygoodness! What a powerful, BEAUTIFUL tree! Made even more dramatic and striking because of that winter wonderland it is sitting in. I didn't get to finish voting in this challenge, and I sure wish I had because you would have then had seven 10's!
You know. . .for a minimal editing challenge, there were some truly phenomenal photos in this challenge, this most definitely being one of them!
Nice job! That's a splendid score! I thought the brightness with your choice of sepia gave this a spooky old picture feeling. It's almost like you accomplished an in-camera diffuse glow! Amazing tree. Excellent choices all around :)
Nice Oak, reminds me of the one on the Texas A&M Campus. I wonder if you could bump contrast up in camera before shooting? That might have helped the "flatness" of the image. Anyway, very good composition. 6
All I could say when I saw this was Oh my gosh! over and over again. This is a MAGNIFICENT Tree pic. My favorite by far of all the entries. So strong.... so old...... so unusual. Great subject, great angle, and great feelings it gives. I would love to see this one in color. Great job.
