 I had this set up in front of a large open uncovered window, with overcast snowy lighting coming in, and used the auto flash on my camera.

I'd like to see a little more contrast here, but I really like the idea of this pic. Of course I'm flute player myself!

I think you were trying to go for the reflection of the music on the flute, but the extreme closeup on this flute (pitted with scratches) shows more imperfections that I think you want to show. Bringing the image out a little to show more of the flute and less of the flaws might help. Also, there are a couple of dark areas on the music that distract - are they shadows or smudges?
