Main problem was the lightning. Don't like it even now, but I don't think I can do better with just one light on my desk.
Shooted in Raw, converted with rawshooter, some level adjustments, resized and sharpened.

That's sad, but re-group yourself and go for it again - and enjoy!
Now, for the image: the redish fabric is distracting, not only does not compose well but offers too many tones...

That poor instrument sure has seen better days. It is a quality image - it has good lighting and an interesting and relevant background.
