I agree that the burn/dodge is a bit overdone, but it gives a great glow feeling to the scene and although it would get hammered in a challenge setting I think it works well on this image.
We have watering restrictions here in S Florida too. Most of the trees and plants in my yard are native ones, so they tend to do all right without any extra water at all.
Here they call the gardening like you have "xeriscape" gardening, and it has been getting more popular as the water supply dwindles.
It is a nice little garden that you have, and must look good when everything around is dry and brown.
I like the low angle, as it puts the plants in a nice perspective .
That's a lovely garden and very well photographed. I love those native grasses looks like a foxtail type. Those water restrictions are a real pain my car is looking terrible after driving on dirt roads and not having time to go to a car wash. But your garden is looking fantastic in this drought.
Oh not cheesy at ALL! I'm a big fan (as you may have already figured out anyway) of that soft dreamy look to plants and greenery. This is beautiful! You'd never know you were having a drought looking at that lush scene!
I would love to have these kind of plants in my front yard.....unfortunately Mersyside isn't reknowned for it's arid conditions....so I don't think they would do too well.

I love these type of plants, and what a great idea to plant natures best type of plants, in with the right enviroment/climate that exists in your area.....
