The mirror actually broke into the pattern shown. I did nothing as far as rearranging the pieces. Of course, this is not the actual hammer hitting the mirror.
I placed a sheet of paper over a round mirror that was about 8-9 inches in diameter (20-22 cm, for the international folks) and struck it with the hammer. When I lifted the paper, the result was this nice pattern of concentric mirror pieces.

Interesting idea and very nice composition. The title really suits the photo and contest as well. It's pretty cool how the pieces of mirror made such an intriguing pattern, which you captured well. If there is anything I'd consider changing, it would be a little less saturation. Great photo!
