Challenge:Good (Basic Editing*) Camera:Kodak Z612 Location: my bathroom in Gearhart, Oregon Date: Feb 5, 2007 Aperture: F/2.8 ISO: 400 Shutter: 1/8 sec. Galleries:Humorous, Still Life Date Uploaded: Feb 5, 2007
I took this pic in my bathroom (of course) using only one overhead light. Later, I used Kodak Easyshare and HP Image Zone to brighten and darken the picture uniformly as well as increase the highlight on the toilet and give it a sort of glow. (I did not go over my picture with a tool to select where what was put. I simply slid a few bars around like I would for selctive desaturation.) I also cropped off the bottom part of a mirror to keep it from taking away attention due to the toilet.

Holy Grail, love the title!! I like the angle and the lighting and do not agree with the OOF comment, I think it looks fine!! very creative and good comp. I think you got ripped on this one...I would give it a 6 or 7. My only real thought to improve might be to get rid of the bottle of whatever it is on the shelf in the upper left corner, that is a bit distracting to me, IMO.
I totally disagree with daboardgirl. This is the coolest angle I have ever seen used on a toilet. You are obviously creative. I completely enjoyed seeing this shot in the challenge. As for focus, I think the softness lends itself well to the image. Dont get caught up in everything being extra super sharp then neat imaged to death only to take photos to win a ribbon with water droplets or completely set up scenarios that will hit voters over the head with bland two dimensional literal thinking. Keep your funky fun perspective. I look forward to seeing more!
You said you wanted a critique, so here you go! :)
I do like the lighting in this, but I the focus seems a little off. I also am not so sure if I like the angle. At this angle, it seems as if nothing is popping out at me. I just see a big bowl. I think a different angle may serve you well. But, what do I know?!? :)
Overall, good lighting and idea, but try a different angle, and if you want the DPC crowd to vote high, you have to have your focus spot-on. I also have problems with this!
