This was a very large file, and I think I lost quite a bit of sharpness in the compression. This was "saved for web" at a quality of 60%. Next time I run into this issue, I guess I'll opt for a smaller pixel size rather than a lesser quality.

I gave this a 6. It was right on the edge of a 7 and a comment, but I couldn't quite picture the "person." I'm starting to see one, now, though. I might even have nightmares about her.
I think the concept is very nice but you're right, a lot of the sharpness is gone. I'm not that technically oriented so I can't help you explain it but keep going with the good ideas.
The technicals: I've entered shots at 60% quality before and they didn't look like this at all. Did you use Neat Image? This has that over-NI'd look to me. The lighting isn't bad, but also not dramatic. You do see some highlighting on the top leaf of cabbage. Composition is centered and static.
The feel: It took me a while to see the face in this shot. The shot does "feel" shy somewhat.
The game: Personification. It was a minefield. People were all over with their interpretations. I can tell you I gave you a 2, but that was purely because I didn't see the face until this time around. Had I revoted, however, it would have been a 4-5. Mainly the NI look kills the shot. You didn't mention the processing, but if you used Neat Image, that's your culprit.
This really makes me smile. Your title really nails it, too. I think the score suffered because of the funky focus. I can't quite figure out why the bit on the right edge is clear, as is part of the pink flower, but not the bulk of the "face." Too much noise reduction, maybe?
