This is actually a crop from a wider shot, which I contemplated submitting because of the equally interesting scene it depicts. However, I really love how this isolated view portrays the story of a male bird bringing back material for the nest while the female sits by their home under contstruction. I also like how "painterly" it is, even though I did very little to it in post: RAW conversion tuning in ACR 4.0 then Levels, Curves and Saturation in CS3 followed by Smart Sharpen (mild) and size-for-web.
Taken handheld with 70-200 f/4 L + 1.4x MkII TC on 20D.

So with this shot you knocked off nearly half of your goals for the year! So by March, you may have to make all new goals since you will have them all done in about 10 challenges :). Congrats on 8th place.
Way to go -- nice encouragement to "stop lurking and participating in challenges, eh?" :) This photo is INCREDIBLE! I gave it a 9, and knew it would be on the front page!
OMG - this is perhaps one of the best Egret shots I have ever seen!
I expect to see this on the front page when this is over.
Excellent stroke of luck being in the right place at the right time, and the technicals on this are first rate! Adding to my favorites.
I hate you! 10!!! I was feeling pretty good about my entry, then I saw this. 10!!! I hate you! I honestly say that there ia anything I would change about this pic. 10!!! I just hope you're someone I know so I can rag you regularly. I hate you! 10!!!
What an absolutely spectacular capture! Right to my favorites.
This is one of my favorites. The coloring is wonderful and the title really hits the spot. I love that you captured the "wildlife" moving, not just sitting there. I think the crop is perfect. I give it a 9.
I like this picture because it is animals in their natural state. Exposure and lighting is great, maybe a bit too much contrast? Still terrific shot and one of my highest rated for the challenge.
