This photograph was taken during a blizzard in Western Kansas at our feedlot near Tribune. I was out with my Dad and brother attempting to clean out bunks well enough to feed when the blizzard hit again. I got this photo just as we were giving up and going in. It may not be the best, but I think it definately has impact and speaks of what a blizzard can do to a rancher. Just in case anyone is wondering, the heifer survived as did the rest of our cattle.
Edit:
Thanks for all the comments!! I was really excited to see everyone's reactions.

I'm so glad everyone is OK. I had to come back to see if you had a story behind this shot. Thanks for sharing the details. Hang in there...winter can't last forever!!
I bet you're getting voted down for focus and contrast. It saddens me that people can see something they've never seen before, a truly staggering image, and still vote it low because of mere technicalities. You get a 9 from me.
It's kind of a low quality photo to be honest but man, is that harsh environment or what! The impact of the photo makes up for it's lack of quality. Nice reporting and I sure hope it warms up soon for you...and that poor Cow too!
wow Wow WOW WOOOOOOOOOW! Unbelievable! Holy Cow! :) Not a pretty shot I'm afraid but such a stunning subject - I can't believe an animal can live thru this! 7 for making me say "wow" out loud!
OMG - I couldn't see what this was until I read the title! Not the best photo in the world, but I am so glad you have shown it to us - we are lucky if we get half an inch of snownall winter!
I sometimes wonder what it must be like to live in a country that has severe winters. Where i live we are in the worst drought in living memory and we have very severe water restrictions $70,000 fine for turning on your hose in daylight. I feel sorry for this poor animal.8
Took me a while to see that there is a cow on this picture. I wondered for a long time what it was. Its a good moment you captured here but if you could have made the subject more clear it would rate higher I think.
Oh my god.. that's terrible! Tell me you gave him your coat!
I'm not sure how you could have really made this photo any better. From the looks of it you were under some pretty severe weather and probably just got what you could. Poor cow =(
