For what it's worth, I didn't crop this image at all. I only did a little unsharp mask on it. Otherwise, directly off of the camera, zoomed in very close.

I think super close-ups on animal faces are very difficult. You did a nice job cropping the right amount of face, but the unnatural color cast in the background detracts.
i have an idea as to what you were after here, but somehow it's just not working for me. the breakdown in the details seems to indicate a problem with the exposure.
