Photographed in Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, Ontario on sunny June 2006 day. There is a boardwalk through marsh area with lots of nesting birds all around. This beautiful male cardinal was feasting on some seeds about 30 feet away. Along with a photo of a Bluejay, it was the only bird photo from that day that turned out nice. I am very much a beginner when it comes to bird photography.
I did some very minor editing. Colour and tone adjustments, selective blurring and sharpenning, cropping, etc. Nothing major. I am happy with the image, I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful comments. It was a tough competition. So many gorgeous entries. I was aiming for the first 50 and missed it only by 2 spots. So I am pretty happy.
Absolutely spectacular. It's rare when the face of a bird is captured in such detail as to evoke personality. Breathtakingly beautiful shot. Worthy of framing and hanging.
Wow! Veerrrry nice. Masterful focus and DOF. The lighting is absolutely phenomenal. The composition is really good and the colors are very strong. Love this shot.
