Greetings from the Critique Club:
Well, searching frantically for something I can take issue with I notice a small, small need for a tiny crop on the upper right. The image is quite wonderful, meets the challenge with originality and with distinction. The use of the blue gel in front gives an unearthly look that balances well with the gold/yellow. The waves in the sand are a nice background for the rounds of the watches. The light painting technique is very successful here, and understated as it should be. A very satisfying submission.
Even though I didn't get a chance to vote, I did see this one as I glanced through - it was one of my favorites. I love the idea, your lighting, compostition... a wonderful shot! Congrats on the ribbon :-)
My first ribbon, what a great feeling, thanks everyone for the votes and the great comments.
The way I achieved the ripples in the sand was by first smoothing it all out, then dragging my fingers through it. I stuck the clocks in the sand, grabbed a handful of sand which I poured over the clocks and threw some lightly at the ripples to knock down the peaks. I followed that by touching up the ripples with my fingers. After than I blew on the face of the bottom clock to give the sand a a "windblown" look.
A beautiful presentation! I like the lighting, too. I'll be interested in learning how you accomplished the rippled sand without disturbing it along the way.
Great image! I love the composition, the placement of both the time pieces & the sand is excellent. I like the warm tone of the lighting as well. Great use of space and the focus is very nice. You should be very pleased with the results, I would be! 10
i don't know who coined 'the sands of time' i'm sure it had to do with an hourglass.. or something to do with archaeology.. but i always used to prefer 'the stains of time'.. great photo. great color contrast. kudos.
Wow! This is so beautiful! Reminds me if Dali pictures I guess thats where it came from ;) The best picture in this challenge! Hope it wins! Great job! - 10
This is my favourite photo of the challenge and my tip for the first place. The idea is excellent as is the set up and lighting. There is nothing at all I can critique negatively on here. Well done and congratulations on the ribbon (10+)
Very seriously effective. The lighting is great, the waves in the sand along with the shadow is just excellent. Has to be in the running for a ribbon!!!
