you know, i find it kind of funny that you ranted about people not knowing what irony was, but then put this up. is it ironic that someone with a wheelchair has a future?
hmm...well, maybe that's just your opinion. but i disagree, this is not ironic.
Maybe he meant ironic in that such an archaic piece of technology is labeled futuro?? After all with the state of medicine as it is now we can reconnect limbs that have been severed many hours before, we can put in mechanical hearts, transplant organs from other species, even grow body tissue in the lab. There are high tech prosthetics used by olympic quality athletes. Yes, there is irony here.
Though this is definitely a "still life" shot, it's not what I would expect in a still life challenge. The shot definitely carries a very subtle irony with it if you consider the challenge, the shot itself, and what it says on the wheelchair, and that does make it intriguing. I don't, however, particularly care for this shot - it just doesn't have a lot of visual appeal for me, and with photography, that's what it's about for me - I like for a photo to have enough appeal that I am drawn to look at it over and over again. (LOL, Yes, I know, the same "lack of appeal" could be said about my own photography, but that's why I am at dpc - to learn!)
ah, fragile.. there is more here than meets the eye. The definition of irony that I'm using (verbal irony) is: The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning. or: An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.
the apparent meaning: (or reason) the manufacturers decided to use the brand-name "Futuro" to peddle their wheelchairs. It sounds almost something of an optimistic outlook on the future. But who looks forward to the future when the future seems to mean hinderance. Frailty, helplessness, and all things inevitable until death..
also- the irony in using a photograph of a wheelchair for a 'still life' challenge..

Good shot, clever composition - really "art" worthy. Don't worry too much if many here don't appreciate it for not having an immediate "wow" factor. It's a great shot. 9
A slightly different angle would make the front of the chair more easily recognizable and help with the impact of the shot. I don't get the irony though...

Not the usual still life image. Hrm, not really sure what to say about this. It's clear, the choice of black and white could have been a good one. Not sure I'm a fan of the cropping, though. It's certainly different.
