this is my fireplace, with the addtion of fire (dunh) and a little packet of crystals called 'magic fire' that santa left in my stocking. (i think it's sodium chloride and somehting else) it makes the fire go pretty colours.
so, we sat in front of the fire, i set up the tripod,a mnd clicked away as the prety flames flashed.
then i did some interesting stuff to it. as well as the usual stuff, i made two noise layers that i set on vivd light blending mode. this made the pretty colourful sparkle things. layer masks to tidy up, and that was it.
tadah.
it rained here new year's, so no fireworks. sad.

I like your OOBie approach to this challenge -- using the literal definition for "fire". The score is quite decent for an OOB shot too.
I like the shot and gave it a 7 for the brilliant colors. I'm not fond of the composition of the shot though. Not sure why, maybe too horizontal. I don't think it needs the sparkly noise, but I don't mind it.
This reminds me of some of those Icelandic sky shots. It might be fun to play with it in Expert Editing mode -- using the flames for the sky of some landscape.
Whatever the cause, I guess mostly post processing, I don´t really care for the grain on the backround and the way it fades, nor rather doesn´t fade into the black bacround, like you darkened parts of this photo and didn´t do a very good job at it, sorry :(
A completely different take on "fire works". Imaginative.
The overall effect works well. I am distracted, though, by whatever it is intruding in silhouette on the left side of the ember. And by the hard lower edge of the whisp of smoke off to the right. But that's me being picky - still a pleasing overall effect.
