I set this up in my lounge with my daughter's world globe up against a sheet of black card
I poked some holes in the card to let a bit of light through the light came from a torch Then I closed the drapes and put a light on behind me
Set my camera on suppressed flash and hoped for the best I had a few mishaps as I had to juggle everything and try and spin the globe at the same time keep the camera still not an easy task

I have to echo many of the previous comments and say this was a very well set up idea and executed prefectly. I think the lighting is fantastic, it managed to get that soft curve we usually see from photos of planets and then plays up the inky blackness of space in a realistic manner.
I think a few more small pin holes may have helped add to the space feeling, most of the time I notice a plethora of stars in the background - and while you wouldn't want it to busy up the image, I think one or two more in the top right and bottom left corners would add to the realism.
The use of the spinning globe is an excellent example of creativity. I think you captured it very well - it looks exactly like a photo of Jupiter to me (a side without the storm) except for that harsh blue line. I'm not sure how it would play out if you tried this again with some masking tape over the equator to dull out that color - maybe worth a try?
The tilt of the globe is great, I like the fact we aren't looking at it with horizontal lines. The angle is just right; adding to the interest in subtle ways. Other than the blue line that looks a bit out of place, I think this shot is perfect. I'm in awe!
What a great shot. I was wondering how you took such a great shot of Jupiter. Nasa doesn't do any better than this. I just had to read your explanation.
Wonderful illusion - a spinning globe? Black background with pin holes? very nice image. I like the composition with the planet facing up into the infinite. fun.
Must be a spinning globe with a star background using a longer exposure. Nicely done. The blue Equator gave it away. This is such a cool idea.
Compostion is perfect. Really gives you a sense that you are in space. Wished that the background was darker(needs more black). Otherwise this is a excellent shot.
This is pretty cool...let me guess, a spinning globe (of some sort) and the background is black paper with holes punched in it?
Cool composition and colors. Since this looks a bit like Jupiter (to me) It might have been intersting to put a couple of red spots on the globe and try to capture one of them as they passed by the camera. Eh, just an idea.
