I had no intention of entering this challenge! I had taken all these shots of the Mackinac Bridge for the December Free Study & suddenly right before submissions closed for Harsh Environments I had the thought that any one of the ones I had prepped would actually meet the challenge, so I grabbed one & loaded it up right before it was too late.
This was my first shoot with my newest lens. For those who don't think this shoreline is a harsh environment, I dare you to stand where I did to get this photo at the same time of year.
It was about 28 degrees (Fahrenheit) which is actually very warm for December, but the wind was gusting to about 40mph - made handhelds like this quite difficult & also made for quite a windchill on this morning.
Waiting for someone to call me on the mistake I made...
Here's my alternate, which I kinda regret not entering:
And here's a poster I made from another shot with info about this bridge:

Nice shot, like the colors and contrast in this one. Would have fixed the strong halo around the pier and horizon though if I were editing this but nothing that is really bothering me. 7
I do like the kinda pastel effect the sky has, and also i like what the composition nearly is. Meaning if the bridge towers were a little more prominent and the rock to the bottom left a little clearer. I'm also not a fan of the orange line in the border.
None of that takes away from the fact that this is a great shot though.
This is glorious in the tone department. I don't sense a harshness, but it's lovely with the portrait orientation. I'd kill the orange border. Great perspective. The sky is wonderful.
Really great shot: love the wide angle and depth that's been created. I personally would have not included the border which detracts..would have rather let the picture merge gradually into into black outer limits...but then that's just my opinion and preference (doesn't factor into my scoring for this one).
