I know it does not meet the challenge, and will probably be disqualified.
But I wanted to evoke immediate reaction. This photograoph of a foetus was taken in a local fair, where similar and abnormal foetus were displayed, under the pretext of a magic show! All for a small fee of Rs.5.

[Yes, I am the culprit. To all those who are pained to see it.
That was my sole objective, to bring to the notice the harsh realities of life (and death).
Some of the members have called it a jocular title. I do not agree. First of all, I was short of words (in the title) for me to explain what I wanted to explain. Second, I did not want comments like the simple DNMC's. Therefore, I declared in the title itself that it does not meet the challenge.
Regarding the first part of the title, we all are made up of same pattern. This photograph represents someone who was born like us, but remained unknown. At least, with this photograph, I have been able to generate respect for the baby.
I know, it is a disturbing, shocking, offensive, upsetting, immoral, gruesome, intriguing, sad, upsetting, disgusting and sick.
But, I don't agree that I have not shown respect for the baby. Perhaps he would have objected if he had a voice, but now he has his voice, through all of us!]
You know... as a passerby of this 'so-called' side-show attraction, I would have the option of choosing to go in and view this sort of thing or not. With that, if I should choose to go in to see these "festivities," even if I knew nothing of the contents of the display before entering, I would have the choice to balk at such an unimaginable disrespect and disgusting exploitation of a human being.
This "magic show" you shake your finger at is no worse than you are. You have chosen to use this media to illustrate whatever ridiculous point you're trying to make here is, and you have subjected all of us (including the children who frequent this community) to it and your idiocy! Due to the size of the thumbnail, virtually no one could have made out what this picture was without clicking on it WHILE under the impression that it was related to the challenge!
So, what actually IS your point anyway? "Don't put stillborn deformed babies in jars and publicly display them!" Alright! But a better chant here is this: Don't FORCE us to view it! If your point was to illustrate how badly that baby was exploited, it was not done so as badly as you exploited it!
I wonder how many who found this gross, distasteful, shocking and disgusting have no qualms at all supporting women's rights?
As you can likely tell, I wish it had an anti-abortion title.
I don't have any ethical objection to the display of this photo. However it really isn't pattern related, and the baby looks pretty fresh. You have to wonder if this was an abortion or a full term baby that died of natural causes, or was 'snuffed' out because of his or her infirmaties. Looks like he is missing arms and legs although many people survive this and are happy to be alive.
You got alot of 1s because of the subject matter no doubt, but I think it's unfair really...I am glad to have seen this baby. Atleast someone got to see him, and acknowledge his brief existence.
There are just some things in life that need not be thrust in our faces and frankly feel the shock value in doing this has no place on a site that is doing a photo-competition. This is best suited for certain websites that tailor to strong political and ethical statements.
This is no different than taking a picture of a nasty booger plucked from someone's nose - we've all seen them, just no need to show the world...
I do not think this is gross or disgusting or whatever, but using a challenge it doesn't meet is not the way to start this discussion. I also think this stillborn one deserves more respect by a better quality photo.

Wow I don't know what to think of this one. I opened it because of the title but whether it's DNMC or not this is powerful and leaves me with so many questions. I'd really like to know more about this photo. Was this some sort of trick photo and its just a reflection or something or is it actually a baby in a jar? If so was it aborted because of deformities or a still born? An undeveloped twin? Just so many questions that I'd like to know more about this babies story. Very powerful. I'm not voting in the challenge this time around so I'm not giving it a score. Just wanted to leave the comment. Please email me after the challenge.
never thought i'd say it - but this is deeply offensive - particularly with the jocular title - i'm no religious obsessive (atheist) and i'm pro choice - but entering this picture via an elaborately shoehorning humorous title seems to me to show contempt for the human life involved - please understand that i am not saying that images like this should never be seen - rather that some subjects are too profoundly serious to be dealt with so lightly - perhaps this picture might be retitled as follows - "Desperately said picture of a baby born with terrible physical deformities who did not live very long if at all and was preserved in a jar for the furtherance of medical research and so that someone could enter a snapshot of him or her into a competition where it did not meet the challenge'.
If you know it doesn't meet the challenge then why enter it? If you want feedback, to get out a message, start controversy...attention, who knows? Put it in the forum. Or at least put a title that gives some explanation.
You're probably going to upset a few people with this one. You might want to post it in the alt.binaries.pictures.grotesque newsgroup, it's more fitting there.
BTW, is this from the Mutter Museum?
a very interesting image indeed. challenging and disturbing. yes, a pattern could certainly be seen here - the very basic pattern of the circles - jar, lid, head, body, ear. but, of course, there is the larger, more evanescent pattern of life and its mysteries - how could such a perfectly formed head not finish the job on the rest of the body.
i can only imagine you're getting some pretty strongly worded comments on this, as people do seem to overeact a bit sometimes to images that are 'edgy'. well done for sticking to your guns and submitting this. i know at least one person has called for it to be withdrawn.
i'd love to see how you would edit this in advanced editing. The basic does leave it a little - grey. i'd love to see some vignetting, gaussian blur on the background, etc etc. but, of course, then it would be mine, not yours... (i did a lot of work in the medical museum during my bfa)
a sad and touching image. i can't wait to see you take it further. and to find out who you are!
Although, I agree that abortion is wrong, this is more of a political statement. However, i will give you credit for being bold enough to raise the awareness.
this was shocking to come across and it could upset a lot of ppl ...
it upset me ...
i dont feel that you have shown respect for the baby, who may have objected if he had a voice, to his dead body being displayed for all the world to see, ...
At least you let everyone know that it prolly has a personal meaning. As for technical aspect....you may want to find a way to avoid the reflection that lines across the fetus's head.
If you knew that this didn't meet the challenge, then maybe it would have been better left out. This could be very distressing for those that have lost a child.
You know what...if you had not self-imploded with the comment in parentheses about DNMC) this could have been astounding. If you had gone for this in all earnestness: set up the composition perhaps with a striking centrally placed subject on a black or white background...and emphasised the GENE pattern aspect this may have worked.
