I first burnt a door in my yard. Then had my eight year old daughter grab a door handle in the house. I moved her into the photo and added blur to her entire body, which gave it the effect I was looking for. Next I croped alittle off the bottom of the photo and flattened it and that's about it.
I also did not have any idea what I would do with the photo of the door. I was basically just jacking around in the yard. Playing with fire! It was the day after I took the picture of the door that I might be able to implament it into a contest.

The door is upside down. I didn't see it at first but then I thought the door handle looked a little high and then I noticed the top of the door was at the bottom. hahah, Good take on the challenge but I think the blurry was what pinged ya. There is some lighting problems too but I mean there is a fire coming from behind the door after all. hahaha
#1 focus is good on the door. Soft on the child. This works perfectly for this shot... gives a bit of an 'off' feeling to the child. Being underexposed is quite normal and natural for the 'other side' of the light... This is not intended to be a beautifully lit portrait.
#2 the insertion of the child into the shot is very well done. Needs a tiny bit of a feather or something around the head on the right side... there's a bit of hue or something from the original pic left that gives a bit of 'cutout' look.
#3 a bit of a distraction in the top left quadrant in the flame, about a third of the way down near the edge... this is the only thing that gets you thinking about the background that would normally be around the door. Get rid of that and the illusion is complete.
Hmmm? Harsh Environment...hmmm? I don't know...I guess. It's a stunning photo. I just don't know. I'm not voting anyway...just commenting. Hmmm? I guess it's out of the box and I love that.
as in fooly cooly? have you seen that? This is a really creepy photo, but I love it and the perspective. The only thing that could make this better is if the girl was more sharp.
I like the idea but not really executed well if you pardon me for saying so, just mainly what I dislike is the poor image quality. With these editing rules you could take a separate exposure of the flames and made sure you "froze" them better and got some texture in them. The girl then would have needed to be clearer for my taste and thirdly less grain/color noise in the door. Like I said, you got a good idea, just need better execution and you´r all set :)
